Volunteer Visitor
The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of JoCare.
JoCare is an inclusive organisation, where volunteer visitors are welcomed by those in the local Stonnington community who are experiencing disconnection within their community. Some volunteers will visit people in their homes, other volunteers will visit people in aged care facilities. All we ask of our volunteers is to come with an open heart, a listening ear and be prepared to make a connection with someone. JoCare is an auspice of the Federal Governments Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS). Philanthropic funding allows our volunteers to also visit those who do not qualify for a volunteer visitor under ACVVS.
The vision of JoCare is directed to encouraging friendship and support within neighbourhoods in the local Stonnington area. JoCare volunteers make a difference in the community by connecting with those who are socially isolated. Time spent with someone is directed towards simply being there for them and is not directed towards undertaking a task. Our volunteers do not undertake any homecare tasks.
Face to face visiting is encouraged as the main form of connection. However, on occasions phone calls and or letter writing/emails maybe undertaken.
Training and ongoing support are provided to volunteers.
Note: You will need to be a resident of Metropolitan Melbourne to express interest in this role.
