Vocational Mentoring ExchangeMentoring Matters has mentor roles available for members of the community who are keen to develop positive relationships with students in school settings, who are prepared to share their career journey and help students in undertaking their transition to work or study.
As a mentor you will be matched with a small group of students undertaking Vocational Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) programs.
In this role, you will develop a mutually cooperative and supportive relationship, focusing on life and vocational skills for 9 weeks in Term 2 (April to end June) and/or up to 10 weeks in Term 3 (July to September) in Brunswick, Glenroy, Coburg, Richmond or Reservoir for a 2 hour session each week.
Through guiding students through activities and engaging in discussion, VCAL students will explore:
- career planning
- goal setting
- resume refinement
- strategies for personal networks
- the importance of soft skills
An important part of the sessions will be mentors sharing their career paths with mentees. If you have a positive attitude towards young people, good communication skills, an understanding of the work environment and a desire to guide and to inspire the next generation of trades people, we would like to hear from you.
All mentors will receive training will be well supported. All student sessions will be held during VCAL classes in the presence of the VCAL teacher.
