Disaster Relief Ambassador

ShelterBox Australia

Logo for ShelterBox Australia

Background ShelterBox is a cutting-edge charity that hand-delivers emergency shelter for people devastated by natural disaster and conflict. We provide shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster.

We listen and adapt our support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster, alongside our supporters and partners.

Our volunteers are a critical part of our movement and are the link between people who need support and those who can provide support.

Tasks undertaken by our Ambassadors include giving presentations on our work, attending events on our behalf, organising activities, and supporting our campaigns.

When you become a volunteer at ShelterBox, you’ll receive:

  • References for your work endeavours
  • A community experience and sense of belonging
  • Shared expertise from other team members
  • A greater understanding of how organisations like ours are structured
  • Opportunities to learn whole new skillsets with practical experience
  • Possibilities to take on leadership roles if you’re interested
  • Induction, training, and mentorship sessions
  • The opportunity to develop your presentation skills
  • A platform to learn and spread awareness about humanitarian issues and their solutions
  • Recognition of your work.

What impact will you have? Our Ambassadors raise awareness and vital funds for our work and the people we support. They are advocates in their communities for disaster relief and volunteering, and support us in recruiting future Ambassadors.

Requirements of a ShelterBox Ambassador Ambassadors are an integral part in the success of ShelterBox Australia and are the face of ShelterBox in their community. Ambassadors are committed volunteers that share the ShelterBox story and inspire others to support our work. Ambassadors meet with organisations including service clubs, religious, professional and youth groups and then introduce those audiences to the ShelterBox mission – building awareness of the organisation through public engagements and fundraisers.

To best represent ShelterBox our Ambassadors need to learn about the organisation, the different types of aid we deliver and the details of how we operate so that they can accurately represent us. We equip Ambassadors with the materials and training resources they need to represent ShelterBox in their communities. Ambassadors are highly committed and are actively involved in multiple activities throughout the year.
