Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre is seeking a volunteer Board Chair to work with the Board and Centre Manager. The Centre is currently undergoing an exciting period of growth and is seeking a volunteer to share their unique skills and talents to build a sense of community and connection.
Tasks and responsibilities: The Chair has overall responsibility for the governance of the Centre and for leading and managing the Board. They work with a Secretary, Treasurer, the Centre Manager and Board members. The Chair:
*leads the Board and Executive committee meetings and facilitates discussion and decision making
- coordinates and manages the work of the Board, subcommittees and working groups
- acts officially on behalf of the Board and the Centre
- ensures that all Board office bearers understand and carry out their roles
- represents the organisation and acts on behalf of the Board group in urgent situations
Desirable attributes:
- previous Board or governance experience, preferably in the community or not-for-profit sector
- strategic and/or business planning and development
- leadership – to work with, guide and empower Board members
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- be forward thinking and prepared to work with others for the benefit of the community
