Ucan2 - Support young people from a refugee or migrant background - North West - Semester 2 2024
Ucan2 recognises the need to provide additional support for young people (16 - 25 years) who are newly arrived to Australia and from a refugee or refugee-like background. Ucan2 is a partnership between the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) and Foundation House. The CMY component is delivered with the support of committed and passionate volunteers who encourage and support refugee and migrant young people through a range of group activities.
What are the time commitments?
Ucan2 runs one day a week, for 16 weeks in the North West suburbs of Melbourne. Volunteers attend their allocated site on the same day of the week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays), for 2 hours in the afternoon (approximate times are 1pm until 3pm).
*Please note: exact session times and site allocations cannot be confirmed until close to the start of the semester.
What do Ucan2 volunteers do?
Through a variety of group activities, Ucan2 volunteers:
- Share their work, study, and life experiences in Australia.
- Act as positive role models.
- Help refugee and migrant young people practice English.
- Help foster refugee and migrant young people’s confidence to make social connections and develop their skills.

We are looking for people who:
- Can commit for a full semester (16 weeks).
- Are interested in building social connections and sharing their experiences.
- Can provide support to refugee and migrant young people in a culturally sensitive, welcoming, positive, and non-judgmental manner.
