  • Time Frame: Ongoing position
  • Time commitment: Monday - Friday School hours and possibly occasional evenings and weekends

The program

The In Search of Safety program was developed by the Australian Red Cross to help build awareness and understanding of the real situations facing people who come to Australia to seek asylum. It aims to clarify misinformation and challenge misunderstandings surrounding asylum seekers through thought-provoking presentations, engaging group activities, and enlightening real-life stories, to increase community cohesion and cultivate a more welcoming Australia. The workshop is focused on primary and secondary schools and the broader community audiences.

The opportunity

This role is suitable for those wishing to educate students using Red Cross content and resources in a classroom, a retired teacher, or someone who is a good communicator and confident in presenting information to the group. The Community Educator Volunteers should have a strong interest in creating awareness and challenging the myths and stereotypes about asylum seekers, and refugees.

You will help to improve public understanding of asylum seekers, refugees, and migration by delivering interactive sessions in schools and the community. All information is presented within a humanitarian framework from a neutral and impartial perspective to allow participants to form their own conclusions.

The impact

As part of the In Search of Safety Program, you will contribute to changing the perception of your local community regarding people seeking safety in Australia and around the world.  Red Cross will ensure you have the training, ongoing support, and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.

Please note you will be required to upload a recent copy of your CV to submit this application and details for two professional references.
