Board Member

Road Sense Australia is inviting expressions of interest from experienced professionals to join our Board of Directors.
We are a national charity dedicated to reducing road trauma through education, intervention, and rehabilitation programs. As a volunteer Director, you’ll provide governance and strategic guidance that helps save lives and create safer journeys for all road users.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide governance, risk oversight, and strategic direction alongside fellow Directors.
- Serve on at least one Board committee and contribute between meetings.
- Apply your specific professional expertise to strengthen the organisation in one of the following areas:
Legal: contracts and MOUs, policy reviews, ACNC/ASIC obligations, privacy and data protection, child-safe standards.
Compliance & Risk: governance frameworks, risk register oversight, regulatory compliance, audit readiness and reporting.
HR (People & Culture): workforce policies, recruitment and onboarding, performance and development, WHS, and remote-team culture.
Marketing & Business Development: brand and communications, partnerships and stakeholder engagement, campaign guidance, revenue growth (grants, sponsorships, fee-for-service).
Skills and Experience
- Senior experience in one of: Legal; Compliance/Risk; HR/People & Culture; or Marketing/Business Development.
- Understanding of not-for-profit governance (ACNC) and contemporary board practice.
- Sound judgement, integrity, and a collaborative, solutions-focused style.
- Desirable: AICD/GAICD or governance training; experience with charities that work with young people and vulnerable communities.

We are a registered charity delivering evidence-based programs that reduce traffic offences, prevent crashes, and support behaviour change. Our work aligns with national and state road safety strategies and is delivered Australia-wide, both in person and online.

Time commitment
Approximately 5–10 hours per month, including Board/committee meetings, preparation, and occasional events. Meetings are primarily online; candidates from any state are encouraged to apply.
