Lifeline Face to Face Counsellor (Newcastle)

We are seeking applicants to join our Counselling Team at the Lifeline in the Newcastle and Hunter. Our team is dedicated to providing quality, timely and affordable face to face crisis support, suicide prevention and generalist counselling.
While we are seeking suitably qualified candidates (i.e. those eligible for Level 1 Membership to the Australian Counselling Association - ACA), we will also ask successful candidates to attend our dedicated Lifeline Counsellor training program.
Our experiential, practically based Induction Course will build on the theoretical content of counselling, psychology or social work courses you have attended and equip you with specialist Lifeline counselling skills. Experience in the Lifeline Counselling Team will facilitate your professional career whilst at the same time allow you to participate in providing a valuable service to the community.
To join our team you will need: o A strong commitment to volunteering with the Lifeline counselling team and be available to volunteer one day per week minimum o A degree or diploma in Counselling / Psychology / Social Work o Counselling: eligible for Level 1 membership of The ACA. o Psychology: evidence of completed Counselling and Abnormal Psychology components within the degree o Social Work: evidence of completed Mental Health and Counselling electives o A ‘one off’ $550.00 payment to LLHCC following completion of the Foundations of Lifeline Counselling course – non-refundable / no rebates available. As these courses are highly subsidised, we ask for a two year commitment to Lifeline.
Our commitment to you: o Complimentary attendance at the Lifeline ASIST course, Foundations of Lifeline Counselling, Lifeline Mental Health First Aid and DV Alert training programs and other professional development opportunities o All clinical supervision is free o Clinical supervision from Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) Approved Clinical Supervisors is available for Provisional Psychologists o Weekly clinical supervision during the probationary period o Debriefing available in person or by telephone o Group monthly clinical supervision o A broad spectrum of experience working with a diverse range of clients o Being part of a valuable asset to the people of our local community in a volunteering capacity
Key Dates: o Applications close - Friday 24th August 2018. o Interviews will be conducted on Saturday 8th September at our Newcastle office in Islington o Foundations of Lifeline Counselling Training - Saturday 15th September 9am-4.30pm at Islington o ASIST program - Option 1 - 9am to 4.30pm on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th Sept. at Islington o Session One - Saturday 22nd Sept.. 9am - 4.30pm at Islington o Session Two - Monday 24th Sept. 5.00pm to 8.00pm at Islington o Session Three - Monday 1st Oct.. 5.00pm to 8.00pm at Islington o ASIST program - Option 2 - 9am to 4.30pm on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th Sept. at Wyoming (Central Coast)
*Note: attendance at all of the above training is mandatory before commencing as Lifeline Counsellor. We do run some community training (e.g. ASIST), so if the above dates do not suit, we will try to work with you to work out times and dates that may suit you.
Applicants who are accepted need to successfully complete the Foundation of Lifeline Counselling Course.
Completion of the above training courses does not automatically mean membership of the Lifeline counselling team. This will depend on competence and suitability. If candidates pass the course they will be expected to satisfactorily complete a three months probationary period to become approved Lifeline counsellors.
