A Community Centre requires volunteers to assist with a horticulture based program designed to develop practical skills in horticulture, plus related literacy and team work skills for independent people with mild intellectual disabilities on Mondays from 1pm to 4pm. The duties include assist in setting out materials and equipment as required, assisting students with assigned tasks, encouraging students at all times, working one on one with students as required, performing duties as directed by staff and following workplace safety guidelines as directed. For this role you will need to be sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities and special needs, have some knowledge of or an appreciation of gardening, be able to perform limited, light manual tasks and have the ability to communicate in a positive and encouraging way. Orientation and on the job training by the tutor are provided and you will have the opportunity to attend extra relevant training as required.
