Activity Assistant Volunteer

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES • Assist in preparation, set up / pack up and participate in various activities • When required, collect residents to attend functions • Ensure equipment, supply needs & ensure materials are ready for the activities • Participate / assist with lifestyle activities – e.g. walking groups, art & craft, bingo, board games, gardening, reading, music, group social functions and 1:1s • Carry out duties as required and be able to work alongside others
Personal attributes: • Comfortable interacting, motivating, and encouraging residents - great listening and conversation skills, and are able to make people feel good about themselves • Punctual and reliable, have a friendly, positive attitude towards other team members & must enjoy working with the elderly, frail and cognitive impaired • Must be able to maintain privacy and confidentiality
Skills and Experiences: • Past experience or interest in providing support for older people. • Awareness of the needs of individuals, including cultural, lifestyle & ethnic diversity • Good clear communication skills, ability to engage in conversation with people who may have cognitive, visual/hearing loss and/or other physical disabilities. • Empathy, understanding & awareness of the needs of people with disabilities, dementia, and/or ageing issues • Attend any mandatory training sessions e.g. Food Handling training, Hand Hygiene training and COVID-19 Infection Control Training • Undergo a National Police Check (at no cost to you as a volunteer) • Abide by all Helping Hand policies and procedures • Must wear enclosed and non-permeable footwear and appropriate clothing
