Employment Mentor

In order to best complement the existing employment support provided by organisations in the sector, the program is flexible, working alongside other initiatives to meet the needs of people seeking asylum and ensuring no-one falls through the gaps.
Welcoming Careers Employment mentors will provide intensive one-on-one support and mentoring to people seeking asylum and refugees who are looking to work or study in WA.
As a Welcoming Careers Employment Mentor, you will use your professional experience and excellent interpersonal skills to support and resource job-seekers to put their best foot forward in their employment search! In order for Welcoming Careers services to be accessible by people with limited English proficiency, we particularly welcome applications from bilingual Employment Mentors (with fluency in Hazaragi, Dari, Farsi, Arabic or Tamil) to provide employment support in our members' first language.
As each client will have different skills, visa type, background, experience, capacity and needs, each mentoring relationship will require something different! The Employment Mentor will need to be flexible in offering different forms of support depending on the client; one session may include assisting a client to improve their resume and cover letters; ensuring that their skills translate onto the page to wow their future employer! Another session may involve developing a client’s computer skills, in searching and applying for jobs or may involve conducting mock interviews with feedback for an upcoming interview.
