Telephone/webchat Peer Support & Information Service - QLife Peer Volunteer - Weekend Opportunities
Living Proud LGBTIQ+ Community Services of WALiving Proud seeks motivated individuals to join our peer based telephone peer support team and be part of the new National QLife service.
QLife is Australia’s first nation-wide peer support and referral service for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people, led by the National LGBTI Health Alliance in collaboration with Australia’s existing state-based LGBTI organisations.
Being a QLife volunteer peer supporter at Living Proud can be a challenging and emotionally demanding. However, it does offer the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to build a stronger and more enriched LGBTI community as well as directly assisting individuals in need of support and information. You also get to be part of a dynamic team of volunteers and there are many opportunities for further personal and professional development.
Becoming a telephone peer supporter will require a significant commitment of your time and energy. The full training program includes the completion of the 10 week introductory course followed by a number of supervised calls and additional training modules. Peer Supporter training also represents a large investment of Living Proud time and resources and, as such, we are looking for trainees who will complete the course and become peer supporters with usfor at least a year.
We are particularly seeking volunteers who eventually would be available for weekend evening shifts although the first stages of volunteering, which includes training, observation and supervised shifts, would require a weekday evening commitment.
