SHINE for Kids - for children with a parent in the criminal justice system
Volunteering with SHINE for Kids gives you the opportunity to be involved in a much needed and worthwhile organisation. Volunteers enrich and extend the services we offer to kids and their carer`s. We currently have a dynamic and often highly skilled group of volunteers with their focus firmly on the children but welcome new volunteers year round because the more volunteers we have allows us to offer more services to more kids in more areas. We service children aged 0 to 18 years throughout NSW. We have an office in Silverwater- Sydney, South Windsor, Cessnock, Wellington, ParkLea, Long Bay Kempsey and Bathurst. Some of the services we offer are: Weekend Child Care at our on site centre`s Child/parent activity days in gaols Transporting children to visit their imprisoned parents Family support Group work (theraputic and social) Support groups Mentoring program Video Conferencing Home visit assessments and Community Development Student Placement opportunities are often available Please include your postal address so that I can send you an information pack on volunteering with SHINE for Kids Mission Statement: SHINE for Kids seeks to address the difficulties faced by children of prisoners, their imprisoned parents and their families. SHINE for Kids is a not for profit Co-Op. The group assumes an advocacy role on behalf of these children and families who are essentially a powerless and voiceless group. In attempting to address the needs of is group, the organisation provides services to children of prisoners, the outside carers and imprisoned parents. SHINE for Kids has been operating since 1982 with paid and unpaid staff. SHINE for Kids funding is limited and many of our worthwhile programs would be unable to run without the valuable assistance of volunteers.
