Alex FM was the brainchild of eight local residents in November 2001. By January 2002 Alex FM became incorporated and submitted an application with the ACMA for a temporary Radio Broadcasting licence. By Christmas 2003, the station had equipment to record programmes and play them on the narrow cast channel. In 2004, they had a temporary Community Licence.The station went on to establish new equipment to give them a link to transmit from Kirby Hill tower. By then Alex FM had 50 members with 16 as on air Presenters, with live broadcasts from 6am to 9pm and a music mix throughout the night. Other volunteers helped with Production, Sales and in the office. Radio Goolwa Alex FM gained their Long Term Licence in May 2012.
