Summary of program and its objectives:

Day and Respite Services is one of eight Divisions of the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), and has responsibility for providing accommodation, community care, residential care and programs and aims to maintain, and improve where possible, the independence, health and quality of life to its clients and residents.

Banksia Services provides practical support and respite care to enhance the quality of life of older people who are isolated in the community, learn more about the program.

Main responsibilities of the role

Develop and maintain the community garden in consultation with Program Coordinator, whilst helping to support staff in assisting and encouraging members to access the garden. Keeping the Program Coordinator informed of any issues as and when they arise as well as ensuring the Garden Guidelines are implemented and reviewed as required. The volunteer may be directed to carry out such duties as are within the limits of his/her skill, competence and training.

To meet the selection criteria, candidate will require

  • a genuine commitment and interest in working with older people and people with disabilities
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to work well with others and take instructions
  • understanding of and commitment to the values and ideals of the BSL
  • a standard Police Check will be performed on the successful applicant to any position within Aged and Community Services, Children’s and Family Services or Employment Services. The Police Check Policy is designed to increase the assurance of quality care provided to BSL clients
  • a four week trial period and a three-month probationary period applies.
