Social Support Day Centre Volunteer

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Chinese Community Social Services Centre Inc.

Seeking volunteers to assist in providing activities to clients, these programs help maintain and further cater for client’s physical, social, cultural, emotional and recreational needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • To assist Social Support Day Centre workers in providing planned activities to senior Chinese-speaking clients (these programs help maintain and further cater for client’s physical, social, cultural, emotional and recreational needs)
  • To assist Social Support Day Centre workers in setting up the day centre prior the clients' arrival
  • To help and assist in packing up / tidying up and cleaning the day centre before and after the session in conjunction with the worker
  • To help serving and/or preparing refreshments and lunch for elderly clients.
  • To socialize with senior participants who are joining the social support day centre

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Fluent in Cantonese/Mandarin, basic English is preferable
  • A non-judgmental attitude towards clients should be maintained.
  • A cheery disposition and the ability to make conversation are essential.
  • Caring, patient and helpful manner when dealing with the frail and elderly people.
  • The confidentiality of information about both clients and staff must be maintained at all times.
  • Maintain professional boundaries.
  • Punctuality and reliability are essential.
  • Qualification / experience in aged care / dealing with aged people would be preferable, but not essential
  • Food handling skills is prefer but not essential as training will be provided.
  • First aid certificate is preferred, but not essential
