The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Chinese Community Social Services Centre Inc.

We are seeking volunteers to provide a volunteer transport service for clients to access our planned activity groups (PAG). You will provide transport to and from CCSSCI’s day centre and other related activities by using Centre’s mini bus. When necessary you maybe required, to assist the client to get on and off the mini bus. In some cases a wheelchair or walking frames may need to be transported. Other tasks may including assisting the duty worker with activity conducted in the day centre.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Transport senior Chinese-speaking clients safely to and from CCSSCI's Social Support Day Centre
  • Collect and return a CCSSCI's vehicle (12 seater mini-bus) at designated parking address
  • Provide assistance getting in and out of vehicles
  • Ensure all items are secure in the vehicle. Eg walking frames, bags, wheelchairs etc
  • Assist each client from door to vehicle
  • Report any concerns/hazards or incidences to the Duty Worker / Team Leader
  • Report any damage to CCSSCI's vehicles immediately to the Duty Worker / Team Leader
  • Complete volunteer induction, and relevant training
  • Attend volunteer meeting as requested
  • May assist in activity with senior people in the Social Support Day Centre

Skills and Experience:

  • A non-judgmental attitude towards clients should be maintained.
  • Drivers will need to possess a valid Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • Knowledge of manual handling (training provided by program).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • An interest in and an ability to communicate effectively with older adults and a person with a disability.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to undergo regular training whilst engaged in this service.
  • The confidentiality of information about both clients and staff must be maintained at all times.
  • Maintain professional boundaries.
  • Punctuality and reliability are essential.
  • Safe and reliable driving is essential.
