Green Valley Scouts are in desperate need of 2 willing Volunteers to become Unit Leaders. A Leader is needed for Joeys which is for 5-8 year olds and Scouts which is for 11-15 year olds.

Scout Leaders are the backbone of our movement. If you are looking for an adventure and the chance to help young people build a solid and positive foundation for their futures, then you’d be the perfect Scout Leader.

As a Scout Leader you’ll organise activities for the youth such as games, nature walks, outings either around the city or in the outdoors, craft and cooking. You will need to commit to one night a week for the group meeting during school terms. You will also need to attend group activities (e.g. hikes or camping trips) on a few weekends a year. Also attendance at a monthly meeting of Leaders is required.

All new Scout Leaders are given training and support by other Leaders from Scouts Australia, as well as resources of program ideas. There is training in all aspects of youth leadership, program planning, safety and other requirements. As a Leader, you must undertake this Basic training as well as make a commitment to the completion of Advanced Training within a three-year period. This training is a Scouting standard all over the world, and is known as the Wood Badge. Training involves a combination of eLearning, practical experience and residential weekends. There is also opportunity for Leaders to complete Nationally Recognised Training in both Business and Outdoor Recreation.

There is no cost involved for Volunteer Leaders in meeting their weekly Scouting commitment. However, for major events you may be asked to contribute in whole or in part to these costs. You will have to purchase your own uniform, and depending on the activities of your Group, you may need to purchase (or borrow) some of your own equipment from time to time.

Whether you’re a young adult or retiree, we are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated men and women from all walks of life, who share a love of adventure and desire to enrich young people’s lives.
