Desire to provide excellent customer service, including the ability to engage with visitors from diverse backgrounds and experience.
A keen interest (or passion) for design and craft, and commitment to remain well informed about what Design Tasmania offers.
A basic awareness of practices and procedures relevant to an art gallery.
Basic numeracy, written and verbal communication skills in English relevant to an art gallery/museum.
Fluency in other languages than English is advantageous.

The volunteer will work under the general direction of the Events and Development Co-ordinator who acts as Volunteer Co-ordinator:
Duties will include; Greet visitors and inform them about Design Tasmania, including offerings at the retail shop, seasonal exhibitions, and the Design Tasmania Wood Collection. Collect entry fees - including processing cash or card payments, and any sale of catalogues and other small items. Record visitor statistics by conducting entry and exit surveys. Guide/introduce visitors to the Design Tasmania Wood Collection and current seasonal exhibitions. Assist visitors with tourist information and advice. Invigilation (supervision) of our exhibitions and displays in order to protect and care for the works within galleries and the building itself. Provide assistance as required in the maintenance and care of the Design Tasmania Wood Collection and tasks associated with installing exhibitions and displays. Where necessary, assist DT staff in conducting the day to day work of our galleries, such as supporting workshops, events and other activities.
