Average level of fitness as work is self-paced. Must attend 1 day workshop training and have own means of transport if you want to adopt a site.
Volunteers use minimal disturbance bush regeneration techniques to reduce the threat that environmental weeds place on SA's native bushland. We have a number of bushland sites across the Fleurieu Peninsula including in Victor Harbor, Encounter Bay, Goolwa, Finniss and Strathalbyn and we offer ongoing training and support to our volunteers. All activities are suitable for anybody who is in general good health, there is no heavy work, but there is bending and squatting involved as well as walking a short distance to the site over uneven ground.
You can choose to either participate in our Bush Action Teams and work with a team of volunteers and 2 experienced staff across a range of sites, or choose to adopt a site and work at your own pace (with other volunteers or by yourself) to assist in restoring it to a more healthy ecosystem.
Bush Action Teams run from 9am – 3.30pm on site. We provide transport from our Brooklyn Park Office with designated pick up points en route, or you can meet us on site. No prior skills or knowledge required. Training and equipment provided on the day. Contact us for our current schedule of Bush Action Teams.
If you want to adopt a site then you need to attend a 1 day Bushcare training workshop (half day theory, half day in field). Once you have completed the workshop we will match you to one of Regional Coordinators who will work with you in choosing a site to adopt and developing a management strategy for the site. Contact us about booking into a workshop (you will need to pay a membership fee of $55 or $25 concession to attend the workshop).
