ROLE OF THE BDEC MANAGER/COORDINATOR

Background: The Busselton Dunsborough Environment Centre Inc. is a not for profit organisation which aims to promote environmental awareness of Busselton/Dunsborough and the broader SW region through practical projects, education and advocacy. It encourages the protection and appreciation of the biodiversity of the natural environment. The role is voluntary as BDEC is an incorporated, not for profit community organisation run by a volunteer committee and operating from an office in the Busselton Community Resource Centre.

The Role of the Coordinator:

1) General administrative duties, organising meetings and managing day to day business of the Centre in association with the Secretary.

2) To ensure the effective communication between members of the co-ordinating committee and the general membership

3) To represent the Centre by engaging with the media, other organisations and the public when required, Facilitating meetings, forums or other events, ensure smooth running of bi-monthly meetings

A science background and some local experience in an environmental field would be advantageous but is not. A keen interest in the environment generally would be helpful.

BDEC is engaged in on-ground re-vegetation works on an annual basis; hosts public seminars from time to time and provides advocacy through submission writing on various development proposals. The Coordinator is generally involved in facilitating these activities. BDEC is also the auspice body for the Busselton Dunsborough Volunteer Centre which is funded by the Department for Communities and is co-located in the CRC.
