The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Craig Family Centre Inc.

If you are a senior ( 60 years or over), speak Mandarin and have an interest in sharing stories of Chinese culture, language and migration, we'd love to hear from you.

Craig Family Centre delivers a Mandarin Playgroup for young children (0-5 years) on Tuesday mornings between 10am and 12pm during school term. We need Senior Mandarin Storytellers to speak and read Mandarin to the group of young children by sharing your stories of Chinese culture.

In addition to supporting the Storytime and sharing your stories, volunteers are expected to promote the program through their networks. As part of the program Seniors will take part in a storytelling workshop with the purpose of documenting a story. Volunteers will also help organise and attend an end of year program celebration.

Key skills or requirements:

  • Older Person
  • Speaks and reads Mandarin
  • Has a confident, outgoing personality (able to approach people)
  • Enthusiasm for working with others and ability to follow directions
  • Has good communication skills
  • Is interested in books and reading
  • Has or wants to develop skills working with children under 5 and their parents / carers
  • Willing to support craft activities
