Family Literacy Program Volunteer
Kensington Neighbourhood HouseThe Family Literacy Program is an after school program to assist children in grades prep to grade 4 from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) with their reading and literacy skills. Parents participate in the program alongside their child to improve their own literacy skills as well as gain strategies that they can use at home to support their children with their reading.
Sessions run on Monday afternoons 3.30pm - 4.30pm and 4.30pm - 5.30pm. Volunteers may choose to work for just one session or both. A minimum of 6 months commitment is required. Volunteers work with the same child/family each week and so continuity is important.
Kensington Neighbourhood House is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children. All applicants must provide 2 referees who can comment on their suitability to work with children. A valid Working With Children Check is also mandatory. We are a child safe and equal employment opportunity organisation. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged.
