Kaarakin is in need of responsible, licensed drivers willing to use their own vehicles to transport Black Cockatoos from our centre in Martin for treatment at Perth Zoo and back. This also extends to picking up injured or orphaned Black Cockatoos at various veterinary clinics around Perth (occasionally also in regional areas) for transport to Perth Zoo and back to our clinic in Martin.

As of Sept 2019, we are particularly in need of drivers in Northern suburbs and also farther South to be on our list of contacts as the need arises. This is not a regular volunteer shift role but rather an on-call availability. Using Facebook is a plus as it is a major means of communication for us in coordinating transport.

Training is provided in safe bird handling. Crates are also provided. While fuel & automobile use reimbursement is not provided, occasionally we do have fuel vouchers donated to us that are passed on to our Animal Taxi Drivers. Many of our drivers also go on to learn field rescue techniques if they are interested in this.
