Logo for Still Gardening Program (City of Hobart)

As a Garden Mate, you work with an older person for one or two hours a week in their garden. It is preferred for you to have some kind of practical gardening experience.

Gardening is an important way for older people to keep fit and strong to stay living in their own homes. But as we age, some gardening jobs like bending down to weed, getting up again, reaching up to prune and lifting heavy weights become hard. Your job is to work beside an older person and help them with these tasks.

By working with an older person you help them feel safe and confident to get outside. You are a friendly face they can chat with, and share their passion for the garden.

We offer you a hand tool kit, First Aid training and some gardening workshops. We reimburse you for your travel costs, keep you insured and immunised against flu and tetanus, if requested.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
