Fishcare Victoria’s goal is to provide educational services to the broader community that foster responsible and sustainable fishing practices and promote participation in recreational fishing.

It is a volunteer based not-for-profit organisation that delivers community education services to schools, community groups, disability sector, attends family fishing events and supports other environmental organisations’ projects. Fishcare works with the Victoria Fisheries Authority (VFA), reports to this agency, and currently applies for grants through the Recreational Fishing Licence (RFL) trust. Federal Government funding (Natural Heritage Trust) has supported the program in the past.

Fishcare has been operation in Victoria since 1995 when it was established as a pilot program in East Gippsland by the then Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Since then it has grown and now operates in five regions mostly along the Victorian coast in the south west (Warrnambool), Central Highlands (Ballarat), Melbourne, Mornington- Western Port and East Gippsland. Fishcare Victoria was incorporated in 2010 to provide governance support to the regional groups. It has Deductible Gift Recipient status and is a registered Environmental Organisation. Skills and Qualities

Duties Act with due care and diligence, in the best interests of the organisation.

Work to ensure that:

  • The aims and objectives of the organisation are pursued.
  • The rules of the organisation (it’s Code of Conduct) are followed through the effective recording of Policies and Procedures.
  • The business of the organisation is conducted honestly, fairly, and equitably.
  • The organisation complies with all laws and any contractual obligations
  • Declare any personal interest that might conflict with the interest of the organisation or their fiduciary duty
  • Keep informed about the organisation’s business.
  • Take an active part in the Management Committee’s meetings
  • Support all staff of the organisation.
  • Take minutes of all meetings and ensure that all decisions and actions made are recorded.

Expectations

  • Attend all meetings (Quarterly held in Wheelers Hill & Online)
  • Be punctual and have read minutes, agenda’s, and background papers before the Management Committee Meetings.
  • If unable to attend a meeting due to other commitments or circumstances, be responsible to put in their apologies prior to the meeting.
  • Participate in the organisation’s planning and evaluation process.
  • Work as a part of a committed team with other Management Committee members.
  • Sign and maintain the confidentiality policy of the organisation.
  • Keep informed about issues affecting the organisation
  • Ensure committee attendance is recorded before commencement of all meetings.
  • All minutes and agenda’s must be properly filed and distributed to all members of the committee and staff one week before the next meeting.
  • Prepare the agenda of meetings in consultation with the President and staff.
  • The Secretary is to deal with correspondence to and from the organisation and ensure copies of all letters received and sent and filed.
  • Ensure Management Committee deals promptly with correspondence.
  • Ensure that the official files and records are maintained.
  • Receive formal notices from the Department of Justice and advise the Management Committee on action that needs to be taken.
  • Lodge an annual Statement with the Department of Justice within one month after the Annual General Meeting, including a copy of:
    • Income and expenditure statement
    • statement or Certificate of Currency of the assets and liabilities
    • A statement as to any mortgages or securities affecting any property of the organisation.
  • And any other duties that pertain to the effective delivery of services by the organisation that is agreed upon within the Management Committee Meetings.
  • All minutes and agenda must be properly filed and distributed to all members of the committee and staff one week before the next meeting.
  • Prepare the agenda and minutes of meetings in consultation with the president and staff.
  • Assist with preparation of outgoing correspondence.
