With the ever-growing stresses of daily life and increasing numbers of calls to Lifeline's national crisis line, there is always a need for more Telephone Crisis Supporters (CSs) to assist help-seekers with a wide variety of issues, including loneliness, relationships, domestic violence, abuse, gambling, drugs and alcohol, mental health, grief and loss, and suicide.

With the ever-growing stresses of daily life and increasing numbers of calls to Lifeline's national crisis line, there is always an urgent need for more Crisis Supporters (CSs) to assist help-seekers with a diverse variety of issues, including loneliness, relationships, domestic violence, abuse, gambling, drugs and alcohol, mental health, grief and loss, and suicide.

What is involved in being a Lifeline Crisis Supporter?

  • Following a recruitment process, you will undertake a 3-month training course to become a qualified Crisis Supporter on our phones, answering calls to Lifeline's 13 11 14 national crisis line.

  • You will listen compassionately to what's going on for the help-seeker.

  • If needed, you will support the caller to make a safety plan

  • You will be part of an essential frontline team of 260 CSs working at our centre in Gordon, which in 2020 answered over 99,000 calls -- 11% of all national calls.
