The St Vincent de Paul Society WA - fondly known as “Vinnies” – has been providing a “hand up” to people in need since 1865. They are a not-for-profit organisation aspiring for an Australia transformed by compassion and built on justice. They advocate on several pressing social justice issues such as homelessness, poverty and asylum seekers. It is through your contributions as a volunteer that these charitable works are possible.

Your experience as a Vinnies volunteer will always be varied and interesting. Some of the key responsibilities of this role are: • Sort and assess pre-loved bric-a-brac and knick-knacks, including glassware, vases, ceramics, plastic items, ornaments, etc…who knows what you’ll find! • Pack items for transport. • Provide insight into the value of items.

These responsibilities might be altered based on your supervisor’s direction.

As a Vinnies volunteer you should possess some key personal qualities, such as: • Being a team player. • Having a happy, enthusiastic and helpful demeanour. • Ability to both show initiative and follow direction. • An appropriate level of physical fitness- there will be some lifting and moving involved.

There are no essential requirements for this role, as you will be provided with all of the necessary training and support required to carry out your position. However, some skills that might come in handy throughout your volunteering experience are: • A good working knowledge of and interest in books, homewares, glassware, collectibles and antiques. • Experience in a warehouse environment. • Organisation.
