The role of the Kippax Kids Helper is to help facilitate the playgroup. The English Language Helpers work with the Kippax Kids Helpers to ensure that the playgroup runs smoothly and is a welcoming and inclusive place. Duties include: • Arrive on time to ensure the playgroup room and outdoor play area are open and ready at the beginning of the playgroup session. Get out some outdoor toys and open the sandpit. • Welcome newcomers, make sure they are shown around and understand how the playgroup operates. • Communicate any news or upcoming events to families. • Ensure families sign in using the membership roll. • Help set up the programmed activities. • Model positive interactions with the children. • In conjunction with all the Helpers, communicate any issues (in relation to property, resources, playgroup dynamics etc.) with the Kippax Kids Co-ordinator. • Bring any families who may need some additional support to the attention of the Kippax Kids Co-ordinator so that they may be cared for and supported appropriately. • Encourage all families to help pack up tables, toys and activities as required. • At the end of the session, ensure that the room and outdoor play area are packed up and clean. The heater, evaporative cooling and lights all need to be turned off and the garage door and room locked. Attendance at Kippax Kids volunteer’s meetings is highly encouraged.
