Harold Hawthorne Community Centre is a benevolent not for profit organisation based in Carlisle within the Town of Victoria Park. This vibrant community centre runs various community activities, provides care to people living in their own homes, independent living retirement village and social housing units. Our centre is dedicated to assisting seniors and younger people with disabilities to remain in their own home and continue to live independently within their community.

Currently seeking volunteers to assist Social Activity Centre team leaders with activities for groups of clients recieving Centre Based Respite. Do you enjoy interacting with older people and have one day a week where you are available between 9am and 4pm? Centre based respite programs are divided as follows 2 days of the week are general aged care 2 days a week are dementia specific care and 1 day per week is for younger people with a disability. We also have a small group program and a Saturday program that we would like to expand.During the day there are a number of games puzzles and activities, morning tea, lunch and afternon tea. The Clients also go on regular outings and an extra set of hands is always needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure clients and agencies confidentiality of all information as per Harold Hawthorne Centre privacy and confidentiality agreement Greet clients and visitors on arrival at the Day Centre Assist Social Activity Centre Staff with the setting up of and putting away of games and activities. Assist clients and encourage them to participate in Day Centre Activities Help with the preparation of morning tea and with light kitchen duties Accompany clients to the Harold Hawthorne Centre dining room Accompany Clients on Day Centre outings to other Day Centres, restaurants and venues. Undertake appropriate laundering of day centre linen as required Promote safety by following organisational operational health and safety requirements and guidelines Communicate respectfully with all individuals including volunteers, clients, representatives, employees and the community Contribute to continuous improvement by involvement in meetings, planning days and reporting mechanisms Participate in education and training opportunities Other duties as requested to ensure the smooth running of all programs on the day. POSITION REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL A strong commitment to working with older people and young people with disabilities The ability to acquire a satisfactory Police clearance A caring and compassionate personality with a commitment to enhancing Clients independence, dignity and comfort. The ability to work as a member of a team and autonomously under minimal supervision. DESIRABLE Previous experience in a centre based program or similar Possession of a current motor vehicle drivers licence Possession of an F endorsement
