The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Boroondara Stroke Support Group (BSSG).

BSSG was formed in 2002 by a stroke survivor for stroke survivors and their carers to support one another in post-stroke management. Today it is one of the most active stroke support groups in Victoria. BSSG, a highly active, successful and innovative group, is situated in High Street, Kew, in our home the Boroondara Community Stroke Hub.

We run a variety of activities for people who have had a stroke, together with their carers and families. Activities are conducted face-to-face and through Zoom.

We are run by a committee of management, are an incorporated group and have around 100 members. We have one paid part time administrator, who provides us with support -all else are volunteers.

Our aim is to provide support and friendship for otherwise vulnerable people. We encourage a sense of hope, fulfilment, empowerment and achievement, demonstrating that there is a life after stroke.

These aims are supported by a wonderful band of 30+ volunteers.

The current president is now 80 years old and would like to step down from the role of President. She, and the committee are seeking interest from volunteers who would like to join our committee - which meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 12.30 pm - with a view to possibly eventually taking over the presidential role of this highly motivated and very worthwhile group.

This volunteer role could suit retired people, with time on their hands, who wish to play a vital role in the wellbeing of stroke survivors and their carers, who previously may have been active on committees of other community groups - eg. school, kindergarten, sporting committees etc.
