The Role: Abri Residential Aged Care is a fully-accredited aged care facility strengthened by a team of value-driven professionals who sincerely care about what they do and what they bring to our organisation and residents.

Some older people don’t have quality contact with friends or relatives. They might feel isolated from their cultures or others. The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) connects them with volunteers like you who, amongst other things, can:

  • Sit and chat about a wide variety of things of interest to that person
  • Watch a favourite television program with them
  • Work with them on a hobby
  • Play board games
  • Walk with them around the gardens
  • Read to them or listen to music with them
  • Help them write a letter
  • Be a good friend who visits regularly

Skills & Qualities

  • Interests or hobbies that can be shared with an older person
  • Strong social, relationship-building and conversational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport effectively
  • The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
  • A patient, friendly and mature attitude that includes respect, care and courtesy towards others
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain professional boundaries

Mandatory Requirements

  • Volunteer Mandatory Training – must complete prior to commencing your first volunteer shift
  • Department of Health’s COVID-19 training modules – must complete prior to commencing
  • National Police Certificate – undergo a national police check and we will coordinate and pay for this on your behalf
  • Current Flu Vaccination – must provide evidence of current 2020 flu vaccination from your GP or vaccination provider

Other Expectations

  • Availability – at least one hour per fortnight between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday
  • Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis
  • Confidentiality & Professional Boundaries– this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Statement of Agreement
  • Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can verify your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader, Doctor or other Professional)

Group interviews will be held between October and November 2020. We will be in contact with you soon regarding the next steps and confirm group interview dates, times and locations.
