Inner West Neighbour Aid support local elderly community members with social support programmes to stay independent for longer, this includes helping with their dog health and wellbeing.

Dogs typically love volunteers who, are or have been pet owners and find joy in spending time with dogs.  Assisting with dog walking ensures the health and wellbeing of dogs who may not have owners who are physically able to or who can’t walk far from home and give the exercise time the dog needs.

Dogs need to be walked on regular basis and we require volunteer who can commit to a regular routine, commit as much time as they can comfortably manage.  Visits will be arranged so they are mutually convenient time.

Dog walking volunteers are in solo charge of dogs only and will not be walking with clients.  If you would like to be involved with client social visiting, please see our social support positions.

The suitable volunteer will have the following attributes:

  • Able to pass a police check
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Be reliable and able to commit to at least 6 months
