Looking to volunteer in a retail environment?  The Salvation Army Newcomb Thrift Shop is looking for new volunteers to help bring HOPE where it’s needed most. Be a part of this by volunteering just a few hours per week as a Retail Merchandising Assistant in our store.

The Salvation Army Thrift Shops are a vibrant places where great things happen: generous people donate amazing items, customers enjoy an ever-changing selection of goods, volunteers gain friendships and share experiences, all whilst raising much-needed funds to assist the most vulnerable in your community. You can be a part of this by volunteering a few hours per week as a Retail Merchandising Assistant helping with quality control and the display of merchandise on the shop floor.

The Retail Visual Merchandiser supports the Store Manager ensuring quality control of donations. Equally important, all Retail volunteers are responsible for fostering a culture of inclusiveness and community spirit among the volunteer team, which will in turn enhance the customer experience in the store.

We have a FABULOUS shop and an AMAZING team that will make your time with us both fun and rewarding. If you are a little out of practice or are brimming with confidence or somewhere in between, we will gladly welcome you and look forward to working together.

Integrity Checks may be a requirement of this role. WWCC will be required if working with team members U18.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements For The Role

  • Customer service, retail or merchandising experience would be beneficial, but not essential as on the job training and induction are provided for the right candidates

Mandatory Requirements Of The Role

  • Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
  • Complete TSA mandatory training and induction modules and any other training as required

Roster & Time Commitment Shifts available across the week for immediate start. Various shifts of 2-3 hours duration twice per week as rostered by the manager. Please advise your availability and your preferred merchandising department in your expression of interest.

The role of the Retail Visual Merchandiser is to increase sales and create eye-catching store window displays to encourage customers to shop. • Research local lifestyle, demographic and design trends

• Liaise with Store Manager regarding fixtures and to source design elements. Monitor costs and work within provided budget.

• Design a creative and effective Store floor plan in accordance with WHS requirements

• Create appealing displays to encourage customer movement throughout the store.

• Consult with staff/volunteers on arranging displays

• Ensure in-store signage is clear and professional.

• Ensure regular stock rotation and replenishment

• Support with implementing promotions by producing eye-catching signage and/or flyers

• Assist the Store Manager to seek additional ways to promote and increase store income

• Experience in visual merchandising or design

• Experience in retail customer service and knowledge of is current visual merchandising trends

• Creative and innovative thinker

• Good communication skills • Good match for the team and TSA values
