The Program  Australian Red Cross Emergency Services has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency services to all Australians to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. Red Cross Emergency Services Victoria supports vulnerable people and communities before, during and after emergencies. We are guided by our Fundamental Principles and our Core Capabilities in planning, preparedness, emergency relief and recovery.

The Opportunity  IMT Safety Officers have the opportunity to join a diverse and highly skilled team to make a significant contribution across Victoria with the key goal to save lives, build resilient communities and support people before, during and after disasters. You will collaborate closely with the Safety Function Leads to increase the IMT’s capacity to predict, mitigate and report on volunteer safety concerns before, during and after large-scale emergencies (large bushfires, widespread flooding, terror-like events, etc.). You are capable and reliable, possess strong technical and communication skills, and driven to make a difference in the lives of people and communities across Victoria. You also have:

  • A passion to volunteer for a humanitarian organisation
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team of volunteers to achieve objectives
  • Strong computer literacy and confidence in navigating digital systems
  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate information effectively, particularly during high-pressure situations

Highly desirable skills and experience:

  • Qualifications or experience relevant to operational health and safety and/or HR
  • Experience in similar roles in an Emergency Control Centre (Incident, Regional or State levels)

As part of your learning and development, you will be required to complete a mix of online and webinar-based trainings. You will also have many opportunities for additional training and development as you join the world’s largest humanitarian network.
