About Human and Hope

Human and Hope Association Inc. is a registered charity that empowers communities to address inequalities.

We want to see a world where communities experiencing poverty are empowered and developed through locally driven initiatives. We raise funds to support a locally-run community centre in Cambodia, enabling them to run their own projects the way that they see fit.

We are looking for someone to fill a Secretary role on our board, and contribute to the fundraising and advocacy for community development programs.

About the Role

The secretary is primarily responsible for record-keeping that is of a non-financial nature and is also responsible for keeping record of correspondence.

All board members are required to contribute ideas toward the ongoing development and implementation of HHA Inc's Fundraising Strategy, including engaging in fundraising activities within their own network and their wider community.

The secretary can expect to spend about 4 – 5 hours per week on independent work and attend a two-hour monthly meeting.

Competencies, experience and Skills

  • Highly developed organisational skills, including the ability to set priorities and complete tasks to deadlines
  • Experience in administration and minute taking
  • Professional experience with leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy or the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience with creating innovative fundraising strategies
  • Passion for localization and Cambodian-driven solutions – understanding that the local way is the best way when it comes to sustainable development;
  • Integrity – fulfilling a director’s duties and responsibilities, acting ethically, appropriate independence, putting the organisation’s interests before personal interests;
  • Credibility – have a trustworthy reputation that will result in respect from all stakeholders;
  • Collaborative yet curious and courageous – able to function as an effective team member and have the curiosity to ask questions and the courage to persist in robust discussions;
  • Active contribution – be an active contributor with genuine interest in HHA Inc. and the importance of local empowerment.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Take minutes at meetings and distribute to board members
  • Maintain all records such as members, licenses, etc.,
  • Maintain a calendar of important dates
  • Communicate with any other applicable bodies as deemed necessary
  • Update changes of board members with applicable bodies
  • Work closely with the board to fundraise for the running costs of Human and Hope Association
  • Mobilise connections to fulfil the fundraising strategy

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed following the closing date of the 16 August 2020. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted, with Zoom interviews taking place on the 19 and 20 August. We will ask applicants who have progressed to the next stage to attend our board meeting on the 27 August. If following the board meeting both the applicant and Human and Hope Inc. are happy to move forward, the applicant will be welcomed onto the board.

The induction process will be conducted by the President and CEO, who are eager to support the transition onto the board.
