The Program Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, Red Cross Telecross Program helps older Australians, and people with an illness or disability, live independently and remain connected with their community through daily phone calls to check on their well-being and safety. The calls support people to live independently in their own home, providing peace of mind and reassurance.  If the call goes unanswered, Red Cross initiates an emergency procedure and arranges help if required.

The opportunity This role suits someone over the age of 18 who is a good listener and can commit to 2 ½  hours a week or fortnight to make telephone calls to check on the wellbeing of clients.  Telecross Volunteers are rostered to make a brief phone call between 7:30am – 10:00am daily and can do this from the comfort of their own home.Volunteering is a rewarding and great way to give something back to your community by:

• Helping people to maintain their independence at home;
• Developing and learning skills such as how to respond to an emergency and interacting with new people;
• Providing support to some of Australian’s most vulnerable people

The impact As a Telecross Volunteer you will provide peace of mind and reassurance to people living in our community who may be suffering social isolation and engage in with them in a positive way to help improve their general wellbeing and give them peace of mind.Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
