Key Responsibilities The role of the Volunteer Art Curator encompasses the following but is not limited to:

  • Liaising with artists to promote the Waiting Room Project and find suitable exhibitions for the space
  • Installing a monthly art exhibition and promoting through social media and other avenues
  • Setting up the art with the artists and ensuring that it complies with WHS policies (this is usually done on a Wednesday morning while the clinic is closed.)
  • Hosting an art launch with the artist (this is usually done on the first Friday evening of the month)
  • Deinstalling the exhibition
  • Promoting SSHC as a service and promoting sexual health information
  • Ensuring that art works, artists and communications comply with the SESLHD Code of Conduct These responsibilities are adapted from mandatory responsibilities for all staff:
  • Promote a culture that reflects the SESLHD organisational values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment, through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with guests during art launches and the art being curated
  • Participating in mandatory training/education activities (eg. fire safety training)
  • Taking reasonable care that their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others. Complying with any reasonable instruction that is given to them and with any reasonable policies/procedures relating to health or safety in the workplace, as well as notifying any hazards/risks or incidents to the Social Media and Consumer Engagement Officer. Key Challenges and Influences Working with priority populations SSHC caters to a number of priority populations. These include:
  • Gay men (and other men who have sex with men)
  • Sex workers
  • People who inject drugs (PWID)
  • Young people
  • People Living with HIV (PLHIV)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Displaying work created by or for people from these populations is highly valued. Selection Criteria

  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of art, and networks of artists
  • Social media curation experience
  • The desire to build experience in curating art exhibits
