The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) offers no interest loans with a specific philosophy based on social justice principles.  NILS Programs offers an alternative to people facing barriers in accessing low level credit on fair and reasonable terms, and have a commitment to upholding an individual’s dignity and respect with the loan payment arrangements being based on a person’s capacity to repay for the purchased of essential household appliances.

The NILS Volunteer will engage in the process of application with NILS, whilst empowering individuals to choose the product or service they wish to purchase. Supporting the application for a NILS loan gives an individual access to resources they might not otherwise be able to attain.

The ideal candidate is someone who can easily develop positive rapport with clients, is analytical and confident in negotiation and advocacy, and has a passion for social justice and fairness.

Some experience in finance and budgeting is required and an intermediate level of computer literacy is necessary for the role.

Successful applicants will be required to have, or undertake, a Working with Children’s Check, Police Check and be willing to partake in professional training.

Hobart NILS program operates every Monday from 10am to 1:30pm.
