Queensland Maritime Museum attracts more than 40,000 visitors per annum including families, school groups, tour groups, inner-state and international visitors. The Museum is planning to reopen to the public in late July early August 2020 under a COVID-Safe process.

QMM’s library has an extensive collection of historical books, documents, charts and plans, including ships, yachts, pearling luggers and marine structures, tracing many aspects of the maritime heritage of Queensland. These resources have been invaluable to maritime historians, yacht restorers, model makers, and academics. QMM has been recently refurbishing parts of the library. We are now looking for enthusiastic Library assistants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Arranges library material in alphabetical and numerical order. • Shelve and retrieve material from the shelves. • Inspects library shelves for accuracy in shelving. • Assist in searching for lost or misplaced materials. • Assist researchers with circulation, directional, and informational questions. • Maintains information displays. • Maintains and updates list of new acquisitions. • Pick-up and straightens Non-Fiction, Reference, and Fiction areas on shelves. • Assist other library staff as needed. • Complie with all written QMM policies and procedures. • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS Requires the ability to do the following: • calculate, compute, summate, and/or tabulate data and/or information. Includes the ability to perform subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. • receive guidance, assistance on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations. • start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions (eg. computers, computer software, chart drawers and other shelving). • perform skilled coordinated movements, such as operating a computer terminal, scanner or photocopier as well as shelving material. • utilise a wide variety of reference data and information, such as QMM library policy and procedure manuals. • perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. • carry out instructions in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action. • exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences. • work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect. • build professional relationships with internal staff and external clients • communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Required Qualifications Essential: High School Certificate Desirable: Familiarity with InMagic Database Software

Physical Demands/Supplemental PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Over two-thirds of on-the-job time is spent talking, hearing, standing, reaching and using one's hand to touch, handle or feel objects. • Between one-third and two-thirds of on-the-job time is spent walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. • Under one-third of on-the-job time is spent sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting / smelling. • The ability to lift and / or exert force up to 4.5 kilograms may be required over two-thirds of the time.
