At the heart of The Salvation Army Mooroolbark Corps is a passion to support the basic needs of individuals experiencing disadvantage and communities in times of difficulty.  The volunteer Material Aid Assistant role organises the unpacking and distribution of food and material aid items to people who are in current crisis as well as contributing to creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere at our Mooroolbark Corps and ensuring everything is packed away tidily at the end of the day. The successful applicant will be able to contribute to their positive and friendly nature to the team dynamic. The ability to take instruction and work independently, adapting to the busy atmosphere of this centre is also vital. Some heavy lifting is a requirement of this role, and so a reasonable level of physical fitness will be a requirement of the role to complete the tasks.

Key Tasks Of The Role

  • Unload the truck, unpack boxes and stock shelves with material aid items, please note; heavy lifting will be a requirement of this role.
  • Check use by dates of food stock and dispose of expired stock
  • Prepare material aid packs in line with customer orders
  • Prepack emergency parcels (where required)
  • Answering phones and queries
  • Undertake general cleaning and sanitizing of shelves, floors, benches
  • Meet and greet clients, providing friendly customer service and responding to customer requirements
  • Some light office duties required
  • Monitor and report any health and safety concerns within the premises
  • The ability to communicate with others, work as a team and be able to contribute to making the Centre a warm and welcoming space.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements For The Role

  • Customer service experience preferable
  • Food handling experience desirable

Mandatory Requirements Of The Role

  • Fully complete the TSA mission volunteer induction, training and registration process
  • Complete integrity checks as required by TSA, TSA is a childsafe workplace
  • A reasonable level of fitness to meet the inherent requirements of the role
  • Closed footwear must be worn at all times

Roster & Time Commitment

Every Monday from 9am to 3pm. Half an hour is provided for lunch.
