Group Leader 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts

2nd Mornington Sea Scouts

Group Leader 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts - Volunteer Position Vacant Wanted! Group Leader for 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts. Enjoy leading a dedicated team of volunteers as they run the youth program. Experience the outdoors with trained guides. Paddle & sail Group boats from the largest beach box on the Peninsula! This rewarding and interesting position is available to all suitable members of the Community. Role. The Group Leader’s role is twofold: to manage the adult leaders who deliver the training program; and to supervise the Committee which provides resources and facilities needed to run the Group. Qualifications. Any adult interested in leadership can become a Group Leader. No previous Scouting experience required. All training provided by Scouts Victoria. Training costs are absorbed by the Group. Skills. Essential skills include very good personal organisation; the ability to plan and organise groups; and the ability to communicate with and manage other adults. Training and a good handover can take care of the rest. The current Group Leader will be remaining with the Group in a different role, after a holiday break. Time. Minimum time commitment: 6-10 hours per week, plus whatever weekend trips or outdoor activities you choose to attend. It’s really ‘choose your own adventure’. You may wish to specialise in at least one outdoor pursuit, and eventually become a certified guide or instructor. But this is not a requirement of the job. Benefits. The position is unpaid, but that doesn’t mean it comes without benefits. Our hall, although old, is ideally located on Scout Beach and holds a good selection of watercraft and camping equipment for the use of all members. Membership of Scouts offers free (or very low cost) training to Certificate & Diploma level in Adult Leadership and various outdoor pursuits. Membership of our Group in recent years has given all leaders the opportunity to participate in sailing, canoeing, kayaking, bushwalking and ski touring. Your fellow leaders include medical professionals, members of the uniformed services, engineers, marine biologists, small business owners, IT professionals and tertiary students. Scouting. The Purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people: to support them in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their community. Scouting achieves this by providing opportunities to grow through adventure and by following a system of progressive self-education emphasising community involvement, learning by doing, leadership, nature and the outdoors. The Scout Method. Much imitated, particularly by the larger private schools, but never equalled! And ordinary Scout groups provide the same opportunities to all members of society regardless of financial means, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation. Scout groups can do this because they are run by small teams of volunteers, keen to share both the fun and the knowledge they have accumulated during their lives, dedicated to making a better society.
