The Divisional Superintendent is responsible for the safety of children/youths in the division while they are involved in legitimate St John NT activities. This responsibility includes any mandatory reporting required by Territory or National legislation or notification required by St John NT or National Policies or Procedures.

The Divisional Superintendent is assisted in his/her duties by Divisional Officers (clinical or non-clinical members), and Youth Leaders.

The Cadet Divisional Superintendent will undertake the following duties:

  • Effectively manage the division to ensure the efficient performance of the division in respect to all requirements of the Volunteering, Events and Community Education
  • Provide leadership to and the development of the divisional staff and create, encourage an effective management structure with divisional staff working to delegated responsibilities
  • Ensure that training opportunities are provided for the development of officers and non commissioned officers (Youth Leaders) and those who aspire to these positions
  • Ensure suitable applicants are available for selection for promotional positions
  • Ensure that divisional records are maintained to the standards required by legislation and the St John NT organisation
  • Maintain financial management of all funds associated with the Division
  • Ensure that adequately trained and efficient personnel are available to meet the service needs of the community as a whole
  • Ensure that Disaster Plans are prepared in respect to the division and that these plans are tested and updated regularly
  • Develop co-ordination and co-operation with other units of the Operations Branch and other Branches of St John Ambulance Australia
  • Carry out all other responsibilities as detailed in St John NT Policies and Procedures including Cadet Best Practice Guidelines
  • Other duties within qualifications as directed by the Territory Superintendent
  • Other duties within qualifications as directed by the Territory Officer Youth

Minimum qualifications, experience, certificates and licenses required:

  • Have attained the age of 18 years
  • Hold a Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Hold unit of competency - CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
  • Current NT Ochre card
  • Current Criminal History Check completed by NT Police
  • Ability to pass annual fitness test
  • Evidence of good character
  • Willingness to complete prescribed Leadership training courses
  • Thorough knowledge of child protection policies and legislation through prescribed St John Child & Vulnerable Person’s Safety training

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a St John NT volunteer member
  • Previous experience with child and youth development such as St John Cadets or similar Organisations
  • Experience in a leadership role in a volunteer environment
