Projects Officer (School's Promise Program)

We are looking for someone with an interest in international affairs and a desire to gain experience in the Not-For-Profit sector to volunteer in our office as a Projects Officer in our School's Promise Project Team. We are seeking someone who can commit to 2-3 days per week for at least 6 months.

ABOUT US

Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a sustainable future to vulnerable women and children in Afghanistan. Over the past twenty-two years, Mahboba’s Promise has adhered to the values of compassion and integrity to empower women and children to make a lasting difference in their own lives. We have established schools, shelters and health clinics across Afghanistan and provide sponsorships for girls’ education, widows, and orphans.

Australian schools and students have been involved in raising funds for their fellow students in Afghan schools, through the Schools Promise Program for more than 10 years. The funds raised have been used towards building and improving school facilities, training and hiring teachers, providing students with school’s needs (books, stationary, uniforms, shoes and a meal) and more.

Job Purpose: To support the Program Manager to plan, research, organise, implement and execute the new 2020 School’s Promise strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the role you will undertake tasks including:

  • Work in collaboration with the Program Manager to develop project scope, objectives and outcomes
  • Conduct research to provide relevant and beneficial ideas to improve program
  • Assist the Program Manager in driving the delivery of the Program
  • Ensure the program is running in line with its scope and timeline
  • Work with the marketing team and Program Manager to create awareness about the program
  • Initiate efforts to make the Program more effective, review processes, maintain and improve the database
  • Communicate regularly with schools, monitor activities, needs and donations, ensure fundraising policies and procedures are being met
  • Prepare necessary and required documentation including regular reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Passion for social justice and humanitarian issues
  • Excellent English communication and organisation skills
  • Experience in previous project management preferred but not essential
  • A motivated self-starter with a mature and dynamic approach
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously.
  • Understanding, respect and appreciation of other cultures values
  • Comfortable working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • A bachelors degree/student enrolled in a bachelors degree is preferred but not essential

This is an unpaid, voluntary position. This role can be used for the completion of a university placement/internship. Volunteers of Mahboba’s Promise are covered by our public liability insurance.
