Community GRO is a not for profit organisation providing services and programs to support families and individuals across the Townsville community through our Upper Ross and Garbutt Community Centres.

We value the skills and experience that each of our volunteers bring to the organisation and their contribution to support our staff and program service delivery. Our volunteers have the opportunity to participate and benefit from our programs.

The Tax Help program is a free program which runs annually from July through to the end of October. ATO trained volunteers assist low income individuals to lodge their tax returns.

This opportunity involves meeting with community members to lodge tax returns.

Our tax help volunteer is required to have a reasonable understanding of the MyGov website. Previous experience with lodging tax returns through MyGov would be beneficial however not compulsory as volunteers undertake online training provided by the ATO before they can commence.

Good communication skills are essential as clients come from a diverse demographic.

Participants have the opportunity to participate in the ATO training and upskill. Whilst volunteers will be working autonomously (privacy requirements prevent staff being present in client appointments) they will also have the opportunity to work within a supportive team and be involved in other programs our organisation delivers if they wish.
