Electrician English Conversation Tutor
Australian Syrian CharityThis role will offer you the chance to make a real difference in the lives of refugee families who are new to Melbourne.
The key responsibilities of this role are
- Taking part in regular (preferably weekly) conversation sessions. We are currently doing virtual conversation sessions over video chat until it is safe to resume face to face sessions.
- Practicing professional jargon through role-plays and interactive sessions that you’ll design yourself based on your own professional experiences as an electrician
- Working collaboratively with the Program Coordinator and other English conversation volunteers to report on sessions and provide input to the program
- Act as a role model and mentor to people with complex and often traumatic backgrounds
Selection Criteria
- A strong command of the English language and great verbal communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in electrical work in Australia
- A strong interest in working with people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background and /or complex or vulnerable backgrounds and a great degree of cultural sensitivity in your everyday work
- Demonstrated flexibility, patience and cross-cultural communication, especially in building rapport with people
- A creative and enthusiastic approach with the ability to motivate people
