A not-for-profit Affiliated Health Organisation (AHO) which has been providing services to survivors of torture and refugee trauma in NSW for nearly 30 years, is seeking Volunteers for an Online Homework Support Program.

During this time of disrupted schooling as a result of COVID-19, children and young people with refugee experience are in crucial need of additional support with homework and remote learning. The Online Homework Support Program aims to provide primary school students, and their parents or carers, with extra learning support via an online modality. Post COVID-19 restrictions, the Program will move to a face-to-face environment within the Fairfield LGA.

About the Role:

  • Engage in online tutoring and homework assistance
  • Parents, carers or teachers will be involved in the online support of primary school students
  • The modality of service delivery used may include phone, Zoom or other online technology as deemed appropriate and/or accessible
  • All Volunteers will report directly to the student’s individual school liaison officer
  • Hours required are: Minimum of 2 hours per week, during school terms and school hours, with days and times dependant on individual schools
  • Training and induction provided
  • Volunteers are needed to commence asap
  • Please note that this role will transition from online back to face to face, once schools allow Volunteers onto their premises again (hopefully Term 3)
  • All Volunteers require a Police Check, Working With Children Check and CV or Resume

  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Interest in working and supporting the Organisation’s vision and the services that they provide
  • Ability to implement strategies to support children and experience working with children
  • Experience in teaching/tutoring/providing homework assistance
  • Ability to navigate online technology
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
