Australian Refugee Volunteers' (ARV) programs provide essential recreational and developmental opportunities for children from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, easing loneliness and isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing. We are a non-religious and non-political organisation.

The Secretary is a member of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee has the responsibility of providing leadership and strategy to ARV, and also bears the ultimate legal responsibility for the organisation. It must make sure ARV is working towards achieving its charitable purpose in a way that also meets its ethical, legal and financial obligations.

Roles and responsibilities include:

• As a member of the Executive Committee, be an active participant in the organisation's strategy and decision-making, providing leadership to the organisation and ensuring that the organisation is achieving its charitable purpose in ethically, legally and financially responsible ways
• Taking minutes at ARV meetings including: Management (once a month), Executive (once a month), Skype (once a month), AGM (annual) and EGM (as needed), and other miscellaneous meetings as required
• Develop and communicate meeting agendas in advance of Executive and Management meetings
• Collate and distribute the Annual Report
• Notify and coordinate AGM, as well as any EGM when required
• Respond to general enquiries via email

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience in a leadership role in a NFP
• Experience in a secretary position
• A positive attitude, high degree of initiative and willingness to work as part of a team
• A mature approach and strong interpersonal communication skills
• Capacity to make a long-term commitment
