Mount Gravatt Community Centre Inc. (MGCCI) recognizes the important contribution of volunteers within the community. MGCCI values our volunteers who in their various roles support a broad range of services and programs offered by this organisation. Volunteers forge a strong connection between the centre and the community it serves by encouraging:·

Skills and attributes we expect in prospective volunteers are:

  • Good people skills and an ability to communicate with people from all backgrounds
  • Strong English language skills and an ability to assist with other subjects
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Over the age of 18 and be eligible to hold a Working with Children’s ‘blue card’

Types of tasks in a typical day can include:

  • Attend class with the student
  • Explain complex terms to the student
  • Ensure the student understands the subject matter
  • Assist the student to complete in class assessments
  • Maintain contact with the program coordinator
