About On My Feet

On My Feet transforms lives.

On My Feet is a distinctly Australian organisation which uses education and exercise to walk homeless people away from the rough streets.

To achieve this, On My Feet offers three core programs throughout Australia: • Walking Groups; which feed in to • Exercise Groups; which feed in to • Our flagship 6 Month “Shelter to Self Sufficiency” Footsteps Program.

We aren’t creating champion athletes; we provide the support for homeless people to discover their inner champion by building self-respect, a sense of purpose and ultimately self-sufficiency through walking, running, education and employment.

About the Footsteps Program

The On My Feet Footsteps Program is an Australian-leading six-month course that aims to transition chosen participants who are experiencing homelessness from Shelter to Self-Sufficiency through education, self-development and running.

After a successful pilot in 2019 in Perth, the Footsteps Program is set to continue to create self-sufficiency for vulnerable Australian’s in 2020 by launching in Melbourne CDS.

Our 2020 Melbourne Footsteps Program will be focused on youth (aged 18-25) experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Our key outcomes focusses for this year are for each participant to be:

  1. Employed and Job Ready Providing each participant with the skills, training and work placements to re-enter the workforce effectively and maintain employment long term.

  2. Independent Living Ready Providing each participant with the skills, training and opportunities to manage living independently and working full or part time.

  3. Physically & Mentally Healthier Providing each participant with the skills, training and opportunities to become physically and mentally healthier and active.

About the Role

The Footsteps Program Job Readiness & Leadership Coach is an incredibly rewarding and impactful volunteer role.

With the support of previous program curriculum guides, you will be required to design and execute a series of workshops which aim to ready participants to enter/return to the workplace and succeed in part or full time work. Key areas for the workshops will be: • Strength identification • Goal planning and tracking • Short and long term career planning • Understanding what is positive workplace culture and how to be a part of it • Outlook on the job market • Job interview training and preparation • Resume and LinkedIn profile development • Managing job performance and happiness • Being a role model

In addition to executing the workshops on the above key themes, the successful candidate will be required to work directly with program partners and contacts to provide suitable workplace opportunities for participants.

The role will be supported by the Footsteps Program Job Readiness & Leadership Coach in Perth, along with other experienced On My Feet staff.

The weekly educational workshops will be presented in collaboration with the Wellbeing and Self-Development Coach, the Program Senior Coordinator and other supporting volunteers. Whilst the day and time of the workshops are yet to be confirmed (and the successful candidate’s availability will be considered prior to finalising these details), the sessions will likely occur in the evening after work once a week in the CBD area of Melbourne.

The program is scheduled to commence in May 2020 and conclude in November 2020. The successful candidate will need to be available to execute the role during this period, as well assist with the key stages of development and finalisation of the program. The successful candidate will assist with the final stages of participant recruitment prior to the program starting to ensure that those chosen align with the selection criteria. Whilst the Job Readiness & Leadership workshops won’t occupy the full 6 months of the course, the successful candidate will need to support other series’ of workshops led by other coaches.

On My Feet is a 100 per cent volunteer run organisation. We do not have a registered office in Melbourne so all volunteer work can be completed at home or at an agreed location amongst the team.
